Guardian Life
Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, previously named The Germania Life Insurance Company of New York, was founded in 1860 in New York by Hugo Wesendonck. It is the fourth largest mutual life insurance company in the United States. Since its initial operations Guardian and has remained loyal to its word to protect individuals, business owners and employees with life, long term care insurance, disability income, medical and dental insurance products, and offer 401(k), annuities and other financial products and trust services. The company had attained $42.7 billion in assets as of end of 2009.
Life maintains upwards of 5,400 employees in the United States and a network of over 3,000 financial representatives in over 80 agencies across the U.S. Significant to note is that Guardian Life was the only company to obtain upgrades from two major credit rating organizations in 2008. In 2009, Guardian Life had its largest ever dividend payout to date with over $723 million to policy holders, up $60 million from the previous year. In difficult economic times Guardian Life was able to show strength not only for survival but for continued success.
